Great place for a Japanise curry. Great taste, good size, good value! Recommended if you are in the area looking for a curry.

Really great small curry shop. No English menu but the chef who was cooking for me spoke really good English! The meal comes with a salad, and the curry had some Japanese pickles, and some veggies with it. I got the classic fried pork, which was ok but nothing amazing. The curry flavor though is the best I've had in Japan, certainly beats the chain restaurants! There's a small bar seating for 4 and a couple traditional Japanese tables as well.

One of the best curry I have ever tried! We had stewed beef curry and grilled chicken curry. Both are super delicious.

Food was great. Flavour was a bit strong for my liking, but still good. Good vibe and they play oldies music.

No English menu but the lady explained what the options were in simple terms. Food was outstanding. We both choose beef curry and whilst there wasn’t much meat in the dish, the flavour was great, rice well cooked and we left completely satisfied. Would highly recommend

Very delicious curry rice! Especially when we are walking all day in the rain and it’s a bit cold. The portion is big even normal size. We tried beef, chicken and pork and found chicken was the best.

No English menu but the chef was able to walk me through the options, meat or veggie, what kind of meat, spicy etc. Curry was amazing.Because Takayama and the surrounding region are getting popular it would be nice to have a picture type menu. Jaksons it seems is getting very popular very fast.

One of the best curry I 've ever tasted

An amazing curry at ¥1200. You can choose the spiciness as well as the size of the rice serving when ordering. The curry has a rich taste, different from your usual curry (maybe some chocolate ?). The meat is well cooked and fried, and some salad is also offered.The atmosphere of the restaurant is cosy with music in the background. The place is a bit on the smaller side, with two four seats tatami tables, two four seats tables and some counter seats.The staff is very kind, and even though there's no English menu, they know how to point out the main informations you have to know (what kind of meat, spiciness, serving size, ...).You can even leave some messages or drawings in notebooks left on the table, or simply browse those that are already there !

Excellent curry, they don't serve other dishes but with curry this great who needs it? The place is small and fills up fast with the staff not accepting any waiting guests. You can only come in if they have a free table. If you really want to try it when the place is full they will accept orders to go/take out.Portions are big and adjustable depending on your appetite so no problems with the rule that each person should have an order.

Very tasty rice curry (chicken, pork, or beef), can definitely be described as "comfort food". The atmosphere is great, and food is not pricy for the portion size.

Some of the best curry I’ve had! Waitresses were lovely enough to explain the Japanese only menu- just be considerate and acknowledge the effort they make to accommodate western customers.

Delicious!! But only go in if you are hungry, as others have said it's one curry per person and they are not small serves! No English menu is not an issue, if you go in and are polite everything is explained clearly by the staff. I had the mushroom curry and my partner the baked pork and we were both so impressed.

Was intending to head to another eatery in mind but the smell of curry drew me into the shop as I passed by. 10/10 no regrets. The curry is indeed out of this world.

Fantastic food here at Jakson Curry. Note they don't have English menus but they will explain the choices for you. I had the pork katsu curry with medium spice and medium rice for 1200 JPY. I really enjoyed the experience and would say it's a must do for visitors to takayama.

The curry rice portion was a bit large but manageable. Prices are at least ¥1100 onwards with 10% service charge and the menu is only in Japanese. Only knew there was pork, beef & vegetable curry, according to the waitress but there are definitely more choices in Japanese. A small bowl of salad was served separately with the rice. The restaurant is small & rather dimly lit place but has a constant flow of customers.

Curry was amazing! I took the chicken one, it was perfect, and my brother took the beef one, it was even more delicious. The mood of the place is really cozy, cool music on the back ground, and the staff is wonderfully friendly. They find us a table, even if they was full, and they took the time to explain us the menu, since they only have one in Japanese. They also come regularly to check is every thing is okay, and to refill your glass of water. Great place to eat a great curry!

Absolutely amazing food! The curry may be the best I’ve ever had.

I noted a few reviewers mentioned this restaurant was not English friendly; they are generally the exception, as most reviewers found the opposite. We had a great experience: minimal wait time, very friendly wait staff, who translated everything for us, and great food. They were extremely attentive, constantly filling up water.Would highly recommend. Thanks for a great meal!

Loved it, curry was so so tasty (choice of beef, chicken, pork or vegetable - i chose fried chicken) and service was incredibly warm - felt right at home, if my home consisted of delicious curry!

Outstanding curry in a hip, cool but cosy and warm environment. I’ve never had a Japanese curry this flavoursome and full of depth. Even the side salad was great. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, and helped us to order because there is no English menu. I highly recommend the “boiled beef”. The “fried pork” (tonkatsu) was good too.It’s a small shop, and gets full fast. We went just after they opened so we didn’t have to wait.

Very nice and cozy little place, with a reggae music in the background. They don’t have any english menu, but the waitress is more than helpful to help us choose the food. The tonkatsu curry is good. The beef stew curry is just so so. The curry sauce is thick and dark, with a hint of sweet. You can choose the spicy level on the curry.

This is hands down, the best curry in the world!Seriously, it is very tasty.They don't provide english menu, but the staff explain it very clearly. One person should order one dish. They have chicken, beef and pork curry!It served with some pickles, carrots, and roasted potatoes.They also has options for the amount of rice, from small, medium, large, to very large.One interesting thing, in each table there are stack of books and a pen. Inside each book, there are random notes from the previous customers who sit on that table. So please do leave some note if you're there. Maybe you can find ours 😉

This was the best Japanese curry I’ve eaten! Lovely, cozy environment, warming curry with plenty of flavour and a scrumptious side salad. Careful attention from staff. Try their homemade bread - it’s also delightful! I had the anpan as take away 😊

Every guest have to order at least 1 menu per person. No English menu,but the very friendly server will help you to order. Honestly the curry is amazing, all on the plate taste really good. The 🍚, 🥕, 🥔 , meat are mind blowing. For me this is one of the best curry that I ever had

Amazing little restaurant near Takayama Station!! Only Japanese menu, but the staff explain in simple yet efficient English the items available. Only rice curry restaurant! It's not expensive and the food is amazingly tasty! Dark and strong curry. The staff speaks little English, enough to order and pay the bill. The cook is specially friendly and we chatted a bit in English. They gave me an English Map from Takayama and also a travel information paper. Very useful! An awesome dinner spot! ありがとうございました！

Amazing curry~ I had the chicken karaage curry. There is no English menu but one of the waitresses speaks English and she can explain the meals to you. The portions are really big so if you have a small stomach like me order less rice~
